Messy paiting and basing

Post by Inquisitor Wall » Mon Jun 20, 2011 1:47 pm

Figured Id post this in DE, as it is primarily about them. I am planning on making a force focused primarily on Wracks, grotesques, talos, and such. I want to paint them to look kind of messy, dirty, and bloody. However I have had a tough time doing this in the past. Any ideas on how to make these units look "disgusting" or repulsive. I am at a loss for basing as well.

However I think this could be a really fun way of running a DE army. My thoughts are 2 units in raiders, opening webways, and all the other stuff pouring out of it. The only units that wont be focused on Hemoculus and their creations are 2 small units of incubi, and a ravager. Not sure how effective this will be but I want it to look cool.

Jeremy is not very adept when it comes to forums, so he may not see this, but you should definitely consult him on this. His plague marines in particular are a remarkable example of things looking gross but not looking poorly painted/modded. With a tasteful application of green stuff, creative color contrasting, and glossy varnish, you could achieve similar affects I bet.

His Plague Marine Rhino is awesome.

Michael would be a good reference too, judging from his Skaven and Ork work.

there are tons of turtorials out there. as for bases it would be pretty easy to come up with something gross or slimy looking, maybe green pools or rusty metal waste lands, or u could buy a whole but ton of broken electronics and make slimy looking tech bases.

here are some gore, slime, and saliva/slime strand tutorial. there are probably better ones out there but here is a good starting point. ... slime.html" onclick=";return false; ... blood.html" onclick=";return false; ... stuff.html" onclick=";return false;

there are also so great examples of disgusting models on there observe them closely and maybe take some ideas from them for a paint scheme.
