GW got the point

Postby Dez » Mon Apr 25, 2016 8:52 am

And added points back, as of this summer http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2016/04/ ... igmar.html

This sounds like just what I needed to play this game. I actually like the multilayered buffing and tactics that were available, I just didn't like that someone could throw down 30 Giants vs my 30 Skavenslaves. I'll have to start working on Bridgets Wood Elves again.

Despite my initial grumpiness about killing off The Old World Age of Sigmar is starting to grow on me. For pick up game it can be a bit difficult if two people have different mentality about the game but in most cases simply sitting down with somebody to build an army is a must. Its just like the current state of 40k where discussions before the game are important so both players are on the same page.

Slim I understand your dislike and grumpiness towards GW but for the people who do enjoy it this could be the chance to get folks back in. Age to mr has become a fun dice rolling game where the outcome isnt who wins or loses but having fun. I been liking age because of its simple rules i can actualy get my father to play a game without having to overwhelm him with rules. And to me that is worth waaaaay more than competition so Im looking forward to it.

Y'know what does better for pick-up games?

Literally any other system.

If the only point you got out of the whole post then sir I understand its cool to hate on gw but you miss the point of my post. Age of Sigmar is about fun and the fact that i got my dad to play warhammer where as before he wouldn't be able to afford a whole army has shed new light on the game for me. Now I look at it like monopoly where we are just playing to spend an afternoon with friends.

Look man, I played GW games from 3rd edition 40k and on up until late last year. To put this into context, I played before the Tau were first introduced. So me hating on GW comes from a great deal of experience from seeing their games slowly devolve into the trainwrecks they are now.

At this point though, it isn't even hate for the company, it's just a great deal of humor upon seeing a giant of the industry self-destruct over their own hubris. 40k is a mess, they nuked WHFB, and AoS is the laughingstock of wargames. And it's all their own fault. They can't balance their rules worth a damn, their prices are absurd, and their communication with their fanbase is virtually non-existent.

As an aside, you mention Monopoly, which is an infamously bad game by all measures. Many people consider it to be one of the worst board games out there. While it's true that you can have fun with a game, that doesn't make it a good game, and the time you spent investing in a bad game could instead go towards any other, better game, of which there is a plethora of choices out there right now.

Fair enough Slim you are entitled to your opinion.

@Dez Corwin and I were tossing around a narrative campaign for AoS. Starting off orcs vs maybe brets for example but later on mixing in dwarves allies as thr orc waaagh grows eventually leading towards....wait for it......

Chaos showing up! Ocs summoning demons as they think these are the daemons of gork and mork. Im thinking maybe nurgle as he has invented a new plague that spreads through molds and fungus which trail the orcs heavily. Maybe even skaven can show up! 8)

There are endless choices for match ups.

I am very intrigued to see how adding points will work out. The idea of putting together a campaign for the system seems like it would be ideal. Through campaign rules you're essentially putting in the point values by limiting which options are available.

@Slim, I certainly understand where you are coming from, but I certainly cannot deny the good times from GW games for nearly 20 years. I don't know if point values are what could save the game, but it certainly is a step in the right direction.

If a game is fun, does it really matter if it's good or not?

Precisely what I was thinking.

@Adam it's pretty funny you mention that. I am planning on doing an army this year for Armies on Parade, if nothing else I'll have something cool to display. I've had this idea in my mind forever, Orcs and Goblins influenced by Chaos! Night Goblins of Tzeentch and Spiders of Slaanesh, lots of Boar Riders of Khorne. I think it would make a fun looking army, not to mention a huge opportunity for conversions.

While I've had very little interest in anything GW...I love those new Orks for AoS. Even the Gore-Gruntas.
