I finished up a small group of Blue Horrors this week as part of my commitment to the "1 a week painting challenge".
I found the Blue Horrors to be kind of fun to paint, but they are even more basic to paint than the Pink Horrors. I am not sure exactly how I could make them any more detailed.
My next step is to try and get the Lord of Change done in the next 2 weeks as I have a vacation coming up.
I would also like to build some more horrors, so I might just have to spend today working on those, and start the Lord of Change next weekend when my vacation starts.

So, with a wonderful snow day and my wife taking my car for the day I was left home without the internet this morning. After an hour or two of watching "is my wife really my sister" type TV on, I decided to do some work on my Tzeentch Army. I was to lazy to go to the basement and get the Lord of Change, so I worked on some more horrors.

I got 13 more assembled today, bringing me to 35 which means I am half way there. Here is a group shot of them.

Here is a close up of the flame from one model. I found an online tutorial, that was pretty good, but I think I will try something different next time.

Great Work Kev, you're going at a fast clip! It's taking me forever to get my Kommandoz done, and I've been spending 4 hours a day on them.

As far as what you might be able to do on the Blue Horrors, try some highlighting with different shades of purple and pink, almost like veins. That would look good, and help them pop.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

I hate to be a nuisance, but those blue horror pics are a bit out of focus =) and it looks like the detail on them is spectacular; I wish I could see it proper. ;)

Keep up the nice work!

I do apologize for the camera shots. My camera is a six year old 3 mega pixel camera, so the pictures are very hit or miss. I will try and steal my wife's camera from now on.
I might try your idea Dez for highlighting in a different color.

So, game number 2 was completed tonight. I played against Bjorn who was using the new Beastman book. Once again I feel kind of bad for playing daemons, which I will either need to give up on them, or embrace. Anyway, the game was really good.
Turn 1 I killed a unit of Centigors, and wounded a monster. Misjudged a little on the distance for moving, so missed out on some spell casting.
Turn 2 I killed some more with magic. The Lord of Change flew over his units and worked to divert some of his attention, which worked out pretty well.Turn 3 was when he reached me for close combat. Things got a little scary as my horrors crumbled to minotaurs and some other monster guys. ( I do need to apologize because I am not sure of the new names for the new units) The magic banner that does 3d6 hits to a unit in combat won be this game, by removing units in the flanks and rear of my units of horrors.
By the end of my turn 5, there were no beasts left on the table.
Some things I learned this game. 1: As tempted as I am to switch my heralds to lore of flame, I am still liking the rerolls from second sign. Life stealing for the Lord of Change kept him alive. He stole 3 wounds. 2: Units of horrors and Minotaurs do not mix. He was getting 6 attacks each from them. 3: The giant that ruins my magic phase is great against Ld 7 guys. Miscasts killed between 12-15 horrors. 4: I still am not getting much use out of the Lord of Change being a Level 4 wizard. I might drop him down to a level 2.
Thanks for the game Bjorn, and Id love to get in another one once you are more familiar with the Beastmen, and I am more familiar with the Daemons.

This project was moved to the back burner while trying to get the Warhound up and running, and getting ready for the golf tournament, but now Im ready to get back into it full swing.

I decided I really didnt like the big head herald, so I made a new herald using an empire battle wizard box. I then used the second battle wizard to create a Changling. I will post pics as soon as I complete painting them. I also decided that I am going to rebase everything onto square bases as I know I will be using the army more for fantasy anyway, so the models should be based for fantasy. Im not sure how much work it will be to rebase the 35 that are done, but oh well.

Last night I got to play 2 more games, one against Kinnie (using his dwarfs) and one against Dez (using his Chaos)

Game 1: I knew from the start playing Kinnie was going to be tough, not because of magic, but because of the warmachines. I knew the Lord of change would not make it through the game, but I did expect it to make it passed turn 1. The game started out very bad. My turn 1, with the Lord of Change (inflicting 1 wound on him). Kinnies warmachines completed the remaining wounds on him next turn, while I proceeded to fail every ward save. Also on kinnie's turn, he killed 5-6 horrors because I failed all of the 4+ saves. My turn 2, I miscast twice, once with my 30 horror unit killing 6 of them, then I miscast with the herald in the unit inflicting a S10 hit on all models in base. 5 more down. The unit went from a level 3 wizard to a level 1 in a turn. Pretty awesome. Even with all of these bad things going on, I was able to kill 1 20 man unit of warriors, all the warmachines, and the quarrelers, keeping Kinnie to a minor victory. This game was exactly the reason I was skeptical of a magic heavy army. When things go wrongs, it is very much out of your hands to fix it.

Game 2: Game 2 as against Dez who was playing a magic heavy warriors of chaos army. I really didnt know what to expect going in, since Dez was playing magic heavy which meant he might be able to slow down my magic phase, and destroy me in close combat.
Turn 1 he moved most everything forward as quick as possible. His daemon prince and sorcerer on disk along my right flank where I had a unit of flamers. His magic phase killed a couple of horrors but that was it. My turn 1 was pretty uneventful, I thought shooting flamers at the disk would kill the sorcerer, but I didnt know he had a good armor save and did no wounds. Killed 1-2 knights with magic.
His turn 2, daemon prince charged my flamers where they would sit in combat for the next 4 turns. His knights were not in charge range, but opened up a flank to some horrors. His Exalted champ used magic to charge a unit of horrors. The horrors broke the champ who would spend the next 3 turns trying to rally.
My turn 2, horrors hit flank of knights, Lord of change hits chosen in the flank. This was where things started going bad for Dez, LoC broke chosen and hit the flank of marauders, horrors broke the knights.
Turn 3 LoC breaks marauders and continue along the flank of the mortal army. On my turn, a unit of horrors charges into warriors to help out the LoC who overran into the warriors.
On the last turn, Dez rallies the exalted champ who turns to face the LoC but realizes he is the only mortal left on the table.
In the end both sides win as it is a victory for Tzeentch!!

Delay in posting about the May 1st tournament.

So the week leading up to the event I had planned very carefully to have everything finished by Saturday, however I was stuck at the inlaws for 4 extra hours on Friday night which prevented me from finishing the 3 colors needed for the models. However over the course of the week I was able to get everything assembled, and I finished converting the last 20 horrors and rebasing the rest.

I have decided to go with the standard GW flamers rather than convert my own since they were not coming out as I had hoped.
So the tournament:
Game 1: I played against Tyler B (dwarfs) from Boston. Pretty uneventful game. We forgot there was a scenario until turn 5, our only combat took place on turn 6 when I charged a unit of flamers into a cannon who with one crew left rolled insane courage and stayed on the table.
Game result was a draw.

Game 2: Greg P (Vampire counts). Will edit later today.
