Some new minis

Postby Inquisitor Wall » Fri May 20, 2016 10:05 pm

So i always try to get painting done while playing in leagues or preping for events. During the warmachine league i painted these up but finished them a little late. Just need to finish the water effects on the base.

They look cool, are they Cryx ?

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

They are. They are the early 2000's androgynous female sculpts. Maybe someday they will get some new sculpts.

It's funny, but before I joined the club or even played GW games...I played Cryx and Trollbloods. I remember a friend and I went to Greenfield Games to learn GW...but we got sidetracked into WarmaHordes. It's funny that I don't play either anymore...though I still have stuff, I might give it another whirl when the new rules come out.

I don't envy you for painting those. Did some up for a commission once and hooo boy that soured me even more towards Cryx.

Still, nice job. I like the skin tone on them; pale skin is a pain to do. Consider doing some darker washes near the tips of the horns--starting with brown about 3/4ths of the way up, followed by black at the end. I've found that it makes them look more natural while also being low-effort, which is a big bonus in my book.

Yeah, it has always struck me as odd that the tendancy to highlight bone is backward. The new growth should be lighter near the base and darker at the ends. Sadly it is a habit that i cannot seem to break.

Yeah, like if you go over and look at various goat horns it ranges from solid color all the way through, to varying spots of black, to what I suggested above. I think most painters do the 'dark at the tips' form of color transition because it looks good.
