Documentary

Post by DZA The Distraction » Thu Jan 29, 2015 6:45 pm

Hello Everyone,

It's been a while. However, I wanted to take a quick poll and maybe generate some interests.

I want to make a short documentary (10-15) minutes exploring "nerd" culture. We all know the age old stereotype of "gamers" as being the weird kids who live in their parents basement and have far too much acne. Hell, I think we were all that at one time. What I really want to explore is the transition that happens after that. How all of us come from different walks of life, social circles, and parts of the world. Yet, we are able to rally around something tangible, similar to sports, but on a deeper level.

I know this is a fairly long rant, as I am trying to figure out the real direction to go with this BUT I really want to get a conversation started around this. Also, maybe sit down with a few of you for one on one interviews about why you started the hobby, what it's lead to, how you actually view yourself and the social aspect of gaming itself in comparison to most of todays interaction which are completely virtual. Heck, I know some of you have children, maybe even how you plan to bring them up or view people as they get older.

Again, it's a very rough idea, but I wanted to get it started with the community I grew up with.

Bring your cameras to OtW Saturday.

Well aside from bringing a camera, I also want to really get a conversation going around the topic as well.

Seeing how peoples feelings are about the culture. As I know when this is finished half of them will love it and the other half with loathe it, as it goes with any gamers.

But yes Saturday I think would be a good time to get preemptive interviews to get people just sort of talking about the subject.

It does sound interesting, wouldn't mind lending a hand, always like to show that people in this subculture aren't all total creepers. Like that wanker, Jeremy.

If I was ever round on days other than Wednesdays, then I would totally love to help with this. I never been interviewed really. I think it would be fun and interesting.
Fantasy is cool. Sci-fi is cool too. But when you combine them, they become even cooler.

Sounds fun, I've wished for a long time there was a good, open, and honest documentary of some sort on 'social gaming', or whatever we call playing with toy soldiers and piles of magical spells now. I'm down to help out. we can even post some stuff in the store to see if people outside of this forum are interested if you want.

Perfect,

Glad to hear there is interest. I've been trying to capture an overall "script" lately so I am doing that currently.

If there are any issues you think it should tackle by all means feel free to post. I have been and out of the scene over the past few years so I feel a little out of the loop. What do you guys think the biggest Stigma around "social gaming"

I REALLY appreciate the feedback on all of this and will be reaching out to the guys at Off The Wall as I move forward with this project.
