Spring 2019 Kill Team League

Post by Verbena76 » Fri Apr 12, 2019 2:16 pm

Hello everyone. Jeremy and I will be running the next Kill Team League, which runs six weeks from 4/24-6/5/19. Details as follows:

Entry Fee
• $5 entry fee (goes to prize support.)

Roster Creation

Everyone must build and submit a command roster totaling 200 points and a Commander (if the player wishes). Players may have multiple Specialists in their Kill Team command roster, but only one of each type (1 Leader, 1 Medic, 1 Heavy, etc.) Payers will draw from their command roster to build Kill Teams for their individual games, and abide by all current rules and restrictions when doing so. (Mandatory one Leader, up to three Specialists in a Kill-Team, etc.)
Players may upgrade one Leader or Specialist to Rank 2 (and choose the Level 2 Ability) for +4 points roster creation if they wish.

Schedule of Games
We will follow the same format as Kevin’s league: two-week periods, one ‘scheduled’ game and up to two challenge games. Players must play different opponents for each mission during the two-week period. For the scheduled games, Jeremy and I will make scenarios of our own design or adapt missions from prior editions of Kill-Team to keep things fresh. For the challenge games, players may play any existing Kill-Team mission they wish from the main rulebook. All games are presumed to use the Kill-Zone: Sector Imperialis from the main book.
• Week 1: 4/24-5/7
• Week 2: 5/8-5/21
• Week 3: 5/22-6/5

Resources will not be used for this league. Instead, players will gain or lose league points the following way:
• +3 League Points for a win.
• +2 League Points for a tie.
• +1 League Point for a loss.
• +1 League Point for newly painted miniatures in your Kill-Team (1 point per two-week period)
• +1 League Point for a short fiction regarding the Kill-Team’s victories and defeats (1 point per two-week period)
• -1 League Point for not playing the scheduled game in the two-week period.
• -1 League Point for not reporting a game.
We will be recording victory point totals to use as tiebreakers.

Roster ‘maintenance’
Commanders: As already stated, a Commander does not count towards the 200-point command roster. If a player wishes to include a Commander, it must be on the initial list. The player must use that Commander for all instances of Commander games, unless the Commander is killed during the league. Then the player may choose a second Commander, who may be a completely different choice. (For example, Jeremy murders my Primaris Librarian in a game. The next Commander game, I can choose a Primaris Chaplain to be my Kill-Team’s commander.)

Casualties: Replacements for slain Specialists start with 0 experience. Players may replace non-specialist models with the exact same model without issue, and follow the normal rules of reinforcing Fire Teams. If an entire fire team is destroyed, the player may select a different fire team to replace them. (For example, in one game I kill every member of Jeremy’s Tzaangor fire team. Jeremy removes the entire team from his roster and may replace them with another Tzaangor fire team – minus any accumulated experience – or replace them with a Rubricae fire team.)

Player Choice
We have designed the league so that anyone with access to the core rulebook can play without needing anything else besides his or her models. However, players may play alternate (Commander, Arena, Rogue Trader) missions in their challenge games if both players agree. Similarly, alternate Kill Zones (and associated Tactics, if applicable) may be used if both players agree.

While a Commander may not count against the 200-point Command Roster, he or she will cost their normal points in any Commander missions.

Players may also choose to ‘bump up’ the points of their games (scheduled or challenge) by up to +20 points if both players agree. This allows players to field slightly larger Kill Teams if they wish, but this rule primarily serves certain Kill-Teams where models are already so expensive that any upgrades make them impossible to field at the 100-point level.

Gift certificates will be awarded for 1st through 3rd place, best painted (by vote, Jeremy and I are not eligible), best sportsman (again by vote), and door prizes, determined by how many players we get. Players will also receive the point spinner and a generic Kill Team pin from the original release pack. The following is a rough idea of the prize breakdown:
• 1st place: $25
• 2nd place: $20
• 3rd Place: $15
• Best Painted: $20
• Best Sportsman: $20
• Door Prize: $10
• Door Prize: $10
These amounts will be adjusted by the amount of players we get and 131 club support.

Although the Great Rift has ripped the Imperium of Man – and the very galaxy – in half and plunged countless sectors into war, there has been an accidental benefit. As the raw chaos of the warp spills through the rift, it recedes like an ocean in other regions. On the fringes of the galaxy, many systems now stand revealed as the warp storms that isolated them have blown out.

In the deep southeast of the Ultima Segmentum, still within Imperium Sanctus but past the beleaguered realm of Ultramar and the upstart T’au Empire, a remote binary star system is now accessible. Long-range auger arrays have picked up an ancient Imperial code from the mythic days of the Age of Apostasy. Rogue Traders familiar with the region consulted crumbling apocrypha and moldering maps to identify the system as Hubris.

Ancient legends say that the world was once an advanced technological culture that resisted Imperial Compliance in the heady days of the Great Crusade. After the people of that world defeated an Imperial army group sent to pacify them, the Imperium of Man deployed the ultimate sanction: the VIII Legion. The Night Lords swept into the system, and brought the world into Compliance within a month. Maddened scribbles in margins of texts tell of skinning pits and a chain of human cadavers that stretched around the entire capital city.

Regardless of the methods used, VIII Primarch Konrad Curze renamed the world Hubris, as a final bleak joke at the formerly defiant peoples’ expense. That name stuck through the millennia, until the chaos of the Age of Apostasy saw an upsurge in warp storms, and Hubris was lost until the coming of the Great Rift. With wars draining resources throughout the galaxy, the leaders of each great power have dispatched kill teams to survey the surface of the seemingly empty world.

Why are you here?
(Possible reasons why your kill-Team has been dispatched to what could politely be called “the ass-end of the galaxy.”)
• “The signal must be located.” ~Adeptus Astartes
• “Hunt and destroy any opportunistic xenos-breed.” ~Deathwatch
• “The veil between the material and the warp is thin. Hunt the daemon and those who truck with them.” ~Grey Knights
• “This planet must be made ready for Imperial colonization, trooper.” ~Astra Militarum
• “The ruins must be surveyed and any holy technology must be reclaimed for the Omnissiah!” ~Adeptus Mechanicus
• “Our rival Night Lord cousins are searching for something. Find out and take it from them.” ~Heretic Astartes
• “A new world, ripe for inclusion into Grandfather’s garden!” ~Death Guard
• “The veil between the material and the warp is thin. Research must be conducted in Magnus’s name!” ~Thousand Sons
• “The mon-keigh are interfering in things they don’t understand. Again.” ~Asuryani
• “Wanna play Duck Hunt, but with mon-keigh?” ~Drukhari
• [Mark Hamill laughter] ~Harlequins (If you don't get the reference, your childhood sucked.)
• “Wozzat?” ~Orks, who don’t need a reason to show up and crump stuff. Seriously.
• “You damn kids, get off my lawn!” ~Necrons
• “The Earth caste believes gue’la technology was once much greater than it is now. Locate and retrieve.” ~T’au Empire
• “Wait, our labor-cult ended up where?” ~The Cult of the Swole-Armed Emperor/Genestealer Cults
• “Mmmm, Chipotle.” ~Tyranids, who also don’t need a reason to show up and start eating stuff.

Please respond with your name and Faction if you wish to participate. The $5 entry fee should be paid in cash to me, Jeremy, or the store. We trust Storrs. Mostly.

The roster and details of the first mission will go up in a week.
