Mordheim Approacheth

Postby Kinne » Mon Apr 25, 2011 10:46 am

As promised, The 131 will be running a Mordheim league in a few short weeks. The scheduled start date is Wednesday, May 18th, and it will run for four weeks until Wednesday, June 8th. There will be no overall winner for this league. Its main purpose is to generate interest in the game of Mordheim, and supply the club with many people who have warbands for the game. It is also going to help test out the many warbands that are labeled unofficial, or have had many complaints against them in the past, to help us better determine which to allow and disallow in future Mordheim events. We're also going to be testing out some rules changes as well. In short, this is going to be a learning experience, even for the grizzled veterans of Mordheim.

We will have signups for the league, but that's merely so people can see who is playing and which warbands are being fielded. There's no limit on the number of players, no entry fee, and no restrictions on how many players can play a given warband, so just play whatever you'd like! There will also be no limit on the number of games a person can play in a week, so feel free to go nuts. But if you're warband gets way out ahead of the pack, don't be surprised if people start turning you down for games. Remember -- the key goal of Mordheim is to have FUN, and having the most powerful warband that crushes everyone without any effort is boring.

After the four weeks concludes, we're going to post up threads for the various warbands that were used and listed as "trial", and we hope that anyone who played as or against these warbands will give us some feedback, so we can get a feel of whether said warband is balanced or not. We'll also look for feedback on the rules changes we're going to introduce.

Remember, though, that the end of the league doesn't mean the end of Mordheim. Why, it really just means the start of it! Although the "official" league will technically be over, we're still going to strongly encourage people to continue on with a "gentleman's league", which is a fancy way of saying "pickup games". Now that we'll have plenty of people with warbands, there's a good chance of seeing some games of Mordheim on a regular Wendesday night.

So keep an eye to this forum for more details as the league approaches, and feel free to use this board for questions.

Also, it has been asked by a few people, so I thought it should be addressed -- players are not limited to a single warband. So if you have a lot of free time and want to play a lot of Mordheim, absolutely feel free to play more than one warband at a time. In fact, I would encourage players who plan on playing many games to consider creating two (or more!) warbands, as it would prevent one warband from getting obscenely powerful.

MORDHEIM TOMORROW!!!! Get your warband ready and your dice warmed up. Tomorrow we take to the streets of the City of the Damned, and we'll let the blood flow like a river!
