Gaming Mats for Ocean Play

Postby MadMike » Mon Apr 18, 2011 7:35 am

Adam was interested in what was available for gaming mats for him to possibly carry. I've seen a few so I said I would put up some links of possible options on the net:

I'll post a thread on the spartan forums and see what else people have found. :)

Expensive......

Anyone find a place where you can get a 4x6 foot piece of felt?

This is the stuff mousepads are made of, you can order it here though I don't know prices http://www.productionrubber.com/index.html.

Any fabric store should sell sheets of felt. Joanne's Fabrics in either the Hadley Mall, the K-Mart Plaza in Holyoke, or the Riverdale Plaza.

You might want to look into Padded Fabric, like the wipeable table cloths.

I found a site for felt at $6.50 a yard for 58 inches wide - good distance.
But the shipping is a killer at $10.75 at the cheapest. They have a nice 'Teal' which would be a good background for water. If you guys are interested, we could get 8 yards or more and split the shipping.

As someone who sells felt gaming pieces, I would be consider the quality of the felt. I purchased some very high quality felt and I think its minimal for gaming use. I'm actually discontinuing selling it as there are many higher quality options out there for not much more money. I recently found (again... *sigh* should keep these links somewhere) Hotz mats and they treat the felt to prevent pilling.

I have sprayed my felt with clear coat and that seems to improve it somewhat, but only somewhat. You can find the thread I started on Spartan games for this here:
