Some Ogre Previews

Postby Inquisitor Wall » Mon Aug 01, 2011 9:25 pm

These seem like they might be kind of cool. Definitely continuing the GW trend for size increase, but with Ogres it makes some sense.

those models look epic!
I would rather regret something I did, than something I did not do.

I couldn't get to the site, but BOLS has some previews as well:

They did say in their recent financial release that Fantasy has been lagging behind 40k in Sales, so their new Strategy is to add lots of big cool monsters to armies to make them more interesting and attractive. It's also why they did Warhammer Forge.

In a lot of ways that makes sense. What drew me to fantasy in the first place was the dragons, and cool monsters, not large blocks of generic guys that I would get bored of painting half way through.
Their new monster sculpts have also been great and dynamic.

Shamelessly stolen from Dakka Dakka via Ogrestronghold, thanks to murmandamus for pictures.

Honestly my first impression went like this 'Oh Coo..huh. Hrmm. Uhh....huh? I'm not really digging the mounts, they are like WoW textures. I don't know much about Ogres, but I don't recall them riding Undead Mounts...these look kinda diseased and rotting. They are also just too cartoony for me. Love the Scrap Launcher though.

they're not rotting, their unkept and mangy... and partially plated, drilled right into the bone; you think ogre know how to keep animals? if they die they get eaten, disease and all.

i'm all about the Stonehorn... it' son a base the size of the O&G araknorok thingy!

See, I really like it. I've always liked the Ogre Kingdom's range, but I've never had the cash to get into it. I'd like to work up an army eventually, they are fun to paint, and you can really work them over as you don't have a lot of models. The mounts look nice and mangy, not necessarily rotten. They are supposed to look like giant mountain goats I'd bet.

I still have a whole crap load of Orcs and Goblins to pick up, but I think I'm going to file the Ogre Kingdoms away with the Beastmen, Wood Elves and High Elves as "Armies I'd like to think about".

I'm on the same page here...except for Beastmen. I hate those models. ;)

High Elves are the entire reason I got into these games in the first place. Only reason I bought space marines first was that my friends all showed middling interest in 40k and less-than-zero interest in fantasy table top. They are "on deck" right behind my GK and dwarf armies (still being painted) and in front of my would-be-nice Storm Lords and Nightbringers armies.

While the enemies of the Emperor still draw breath, I have some faces that I need to crack open. @_@

cool mini's not a bad job but they seem a bit over the top like GW is trying to hard. I think they have a little bit of a flintstones feel but thats just me being critical.
